Detentions

New System Jan 2010

just a placeholder for now

The detention system has changed slightly; the new system will be easier for both students and staff.

The Steps:

STEP 1 - DEPARTMENT DETENTION

Individual teacher to deal with students for incidents that require a detention.

  • Break times
  • Lunch times
  • After school
  • Use of Academic Referral system
  • Phone calls home, letters, use of planner and department reports

STEP 2 - FORMAL AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION

Tuesdays 3.15pm – 4.15pm in the Isolation room (late buses run to help with transport on Tuesdays).

A student can be referred to Step 2 after failure of Step 1. The referral can only be made by Head of Faculty after checking all procedures have been followed. Failure to turn up for formal detention will result in Step 3.

STEP 3 - PRINCIPAL'S DETENTION

Fridays 3.00pm – 5.00pm in Mr Robson’s office
Failure to turn up for Step 3 will result in Step 4.

STEP 4 - FIXED TERM EXCLUSION

Communications

If students fail to follow College rules, parents/carers and students will be contacted at each stage. Letters will be generated and sent home for:

  • Step 2 – Formal after school detentions
  • Step 3 – Principal's detention
  • Step 4 – Fixed term exclusion

Students will be reminded on the day of their Step 2 and Step 3 detention. The responsibility ultimately lies with the student.
