Samuel Whitbread serves the rural communities around the small market town of Shefford in Mid-Bedfordshire. As well as a popular and expanding comprehensive school with Specialist Engineering Status, it contains a nursery school and facilities for adult education.

Students enjoy college and are keen to learn. (OfSTED report 2006) The superb new building has hugely improved the learning environment and is a visible symbol of an improving college (OfSTED report 2006) Care, Guidance and Support are outstanding in the Sixth Form (OfSTED report 2006) Students are effectively encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles through a good range of sports activities and the healthy meals that have been introduced (OfSTED report 2006). Behaviour is good (OfSTED report 2006). Teachers generally plan thoroughly and often deliver interesting, well structured lessons (OfSTED report 2006). Students with learning difficulties and disabilities are well supported and make good progress (OfSTED report 2006). There is a good range of extra curricular activities, particularly in sport and the arts, and additional study support (OfSTED report 2006). The college's role as a Training School is well placed to support the drive to raise achievement (OfSTED report 2006). Provision for students with learning difficulties and disabilities is very good.
